Brand Voices

Creating a Brand Voice

Define your tone, style, and audience

Before You Start

Before creating a brand voice, think about:

  • Who reads your content? Their expertise level, interests, and what they're looking for
  • How should your brand sound? Formal or casual? Authoritative or friendly?
  • What makes your content unique? Any specific styles or approaches you want to maintain

Look at your existing content. What tone do your best-performing articles use? Use that as a starting point.

Creating a Brand Voice

1
Navigate to Brand Voices

From the main menu, click Brand Voices. You'll see your existing voices and the option to create a new one.

2
Click New Brand Voice

Click the New Brand Voice button to open the creation form.

3
Name your voice

Give your brand voice a descriptive name that helps you identify it later. Good examples: "Tech Blog - Casual", "Product Reviews", "Company Announcements".

4
Select a base tone

Choose the primary tone for this voice. Options include:

  • Professional - Formal, business-appropriate
  • Casual - Relaxed, conversational
  • Authoritative - Expert, confident
  • Friendly - Warm, approachable
  • Educational - Clear, instructional
5
Define your audience

Describe who will read this content. Be specific - "small business owners new to marketing" is more useful than just "business people".

6
Add style guidelines

Write specific instructions for how content should be written. This is where you can fine-tune the AI's output to match your preferences.

7
Save the brand voice

Click Create Brand Voice. Your new voice is ready to use in projects and articles.

Writing Effective Guidelines

Style guidelines tell the AI exactly how to write. Here are tips for writing guidelines that produce good results:

Be specific

Instead of "write well", say "use short sentences and paragraphs" or "explain technical terms when first used".

Use do's and don'ts

  • Do: Use active voice
  • Do: Include practical examples
  • Don't: Use industry jargon without explanation
  • Don't: Start paragraphs with "I"

Reference examples

If you have a specific style in mind, describe it: "Write like a helpful friend explaining something, not like a textbook."

Guidelines don't need to be long. A few clear, specific instructions work better than a lengthy document.

Testing Your Voice

After creating a brand voice, test it by generating a short article:

  1. Create a new article with a keyword you're familiar with
  2. Select your new brand voice
  3. Generate the content
  4. Review whether the output matches your expectations

If the content doesn't sound right, go back and adjust your guidelines. Small changes can make a big difference in the output.

Start with broader guidelines and refine them based on the results. It's easier to add specifics than to start over.
